Golden Crown Panaderia is an old-fashioned neighborhood bakery near Albuquerque's Old Town, family-run since 1972. It's beloved for green-chile bread, biscochitos, empanadas, and a New Mexican pizza baked on green-chile crust, plus pastries and coffee served in a plant-strewn shop that has drawn national attention, including a Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives visit.
The Baca family bakes to order and decorates by hand, and the panaderia's willingness to make almost anything on request — sugar-skull cookies, custom breads — has made it as much a community fixture as a bakery.
